Don't think, just write!!! That was the advice given to Asher students by children's author David Adler when he visited the school on November 13. He spoke with students in grade level assemblies discussing how he gets ideas from people around him. He never uses their real name, but invents a fictional character with similar personality traits. He gave examples of real things that his nephew or sons had said or done, such as their lost snake, and then read from his books to show how he used the event in his writing.
Mr. Adler also discussed the process of getting a book published and showed examples of how color pictures are printed and how covers are made.
Before the day was over Mr. Adler had autographed many copies of his books that students and staff had purchased. He has already written 155 books and, who knows, perhaps he met someone or saw something at Asher that he will use for book 156!
