And beautiful pups, too!
Posted by Wendy at May 20, 2003 08:33 AMOk, I know I'm are a knit geek! I got a little thrill reading your steeky post and seeing how beautifully the steek came out! I'll have to give that technique a try! Great post!
Posted by Teresa at May 20, 2003 10:50 AMGoody, crocheted steeks! I read an article on them ages ago in...? Threads? Knitters? Always meant to try it-- thanks for "reminding" me Lisa :)
Yours look AWEsome btw :))
As do your pups-- luv those little eyebrow patches.
OK I am not usually so DENSE but I am not sure I get it. Are you cutting through the crocheting you just did? If not, why not? I have an explanation of this from someone else, saved somewhere in email, but I'm perplexed that your explanation and photos are so clear and I'm so confused!
Posted by CarolineF at May 20, 2003 03:41 PMHi Carolyn, you are never dense, so I must have missed something in my explanation. What happens when you crochet half of one stitch to half of the adjacent stitch up one side and down the other is that a little ladder of leftover stitch is left behind underneath. You don't cut through the crochet chain, but through the inbetween ladders that are left when you chain one side and then the other. In fact, the ladders are all you see between the two sets of chains. If you did a sample steek this way, or saw it done in person? You'd smack your forehead and grin to see just how incredibly easy it is. Cheers!
Posted by Lisa at May 20, 2003 03:54 PMmost excellent steek photos and explanations. i wil definitely use this as a reference, should the need arise.
Posted by deb at May 21, 2003 12:40 AMAha. OK, what I missed was TWO crochet lines. I knew it had to be something obvious. I wonder if you could put your chains farther apart if you wanted less of a facing inside.
Posted by CarolineF at May 21, 2003 08:35 AMHi, I enjoy your blog very much. The sweater is beautiful and thank you for the wonderful explanation of crocheted steeks. I will definitely be trying this technique. Also, its nice to have a "doggy" knitting blog around among all the cats.
Posted by Linda M at May 21, 2003 11:18 AMThank you, Lisa, for the steek close-ups and the explanation. I have always avoided steeking, but this seems to be a very clean way to do it. I believe you have inspired me to give it a go!
