....wonderful photo of a wet dawg!

...your opinion on ribbing just cracks me up...so American...when in Britain on my Jean Moss tour last Fall ( a wonderful tour for you blog readers), I will never forget being in the class in Edinburgh when the subject of ribbing came up...we Americans just get through it so we can hit the pattern, but "real knitters" had comments like: "oh, don't you just Looove ribbing...so creative....the pattern says do 3 inches but I'm going to do 6 inches..."...Jean Moss does beautiful ribbing and considers it a sculptural effect that beautifies the garment...I've tried very hard to change my attitude about it that it is a wonderful opportunity for creativity.....from janet

....oops---need another post before I forget to say this....if you ever have an opportunity to take a Latvin mitten class from the guru, Lizbeth Upitis----run, don't walk to sign up...a few years ago a local yarn store in Princeton (Glenmarle)had Lizbeth for a day long class at the owner's farmhouse....my friend Marilyn and I went and saw myriads of authentic mittens...the workshop was excellent and eventually I knit a pair for one of my grand-daughters....so Lisa, you have my good wishes for doing an entire sweater...and I look forward to blog photos....from janet again

Lisa,

I can't wait until these new fibers 'trickle down' to us hand-knitters! I'm going to write that glowy-fabric company about getting a sample. I'll let you know if I hear from them.
(Probably won't but worth a try!)

Great idea, Stefanie... I don't know why I didn't think of writing them...it's very cool stuff, isn't it!

Janet, the Giant Latvian Mitten cardigan was inspired by motives charted by both Lizbeth Upitis and Joyce Williams, the Latvian-knitting authors. I'd love a class with either one of them!
But I'm sure I will still be finding ribbing loathsome. :-)
