Quite a few crocheters have blogs -- but a lot of us knit, too. :) I crocheted for years before I ever started to knit. My blog covers a lot of the crafts I do -- lately I've been knitting more than crocheting, but I feature all my projects there.
I think one of the big differences is crocheters don't have as large an internet community -- there is nothing like the KnitList out there, for example. Sure, smaller mailing lists exist, but nothing the size and scope of KL. As far as I know, there is also no crochet-bloggers ring.
One thing I've noticed on knit versus crochet - knitters are generally more willing to get wild with the pricier novelty yarns (and wools) because for any given project it will generally take less yarn to knit than to crochet. This may help to explain why a lot of LYS's have knitting circles, but no crochet circles.
Crocheters just need to get connected. :)
Posted by Cyndilou at June 12, 2003 09:20 AMOh my word, that Spikey Bra thing is so un-real! How in the WORLD did you find that, Lisa?
Posted by Karen Berglund at June 12, 2003 10:16 AMLisa, your latvian mitten cardigan is gorgeous! I love seeing the progress. I just finished a Stonington Shetland Shawl by EZ and am now working on the Fair Isle vest by Meg Swansen. Happy Knitting!
Posted by Robin at June 12, 2003 11:09 AMI crocheted before I knit, and one led to the other, thanks to my gran. But I rarely crochet any longer--the fabric pales next to knitting, tho it come along MUCH faster (and uses 1/2 to 2/3 more yarn).
It's great for af-a-ghans, but that's about it in my repetoire.
However, Melissa Leapman's crochet book has some VERY nice patterns in it. I've taught two sweaters out of it in regular classes before.
Posted by Rob at June 12, 2003 12:00 PMfor possibilities, go google "crochet blogs". it seems like there might be some out there.
Posted by rebecca blood at June 12, 2003 01:22 PMWow you're really going fast on the Latvian mitten cardigan. It looks like such a fun project.
Posted by Nanette Blanchard at June 12, 2003 03:05 PMI think, when I was about six or so, I started working with yarn via crochet. I'm pretty sure the first slip knot I made was then plied with a crochet hook. And there's this funny fond spot in my heart for those 70s afghans made in day-glo orange and green granny squares. Even die-hard must-knit-till-we-die knitters like myself love to crochet a blanket every now and again.... It's grounding, to me. But there's not as much to whinge about, is there? No one drops forty-two stitches in crochet when the needle comes apart. Frogging is easy. Blogs are more fun with some empathetic whining, and maybe that's why there're SO many more knit than crochet blogs. (and thanks for your kind words at my site, feeling much better now).
Posted by Rachael at June 12, 2003 08:20 PMBTW - forgot to mention how much I love the color work you've been doing lately. I'm still a little too timid to try it, but I recently got a slipstitch pattern book from a friend and so I might start dipping my toe in. Thanks for dropping by! :)
