The pups aren't alone. Apparently, cicadas are a Chinese delicacy. I forget if they're stir-fried or deep-fried.

The cats love them too! They like to play with them before they eat them. Ugh!

My friend's son calls cicadas 'zeezers' describing the noise they make. I laugh everytime I think of that -- zeezers!

I know what you mean about a busy week. I'm tired, too, and looking forward to an extra hour of sleep on Saturday, if I get to sleep in.

Just wanted to sound a note of caution about the cicadas - apparently they are very high in fat - last time the 17 year guys came out down here (16 years ago I think...) a friend's dog ate them nonstop and ended up with an inflamed pancreas. So I hope you can convince your doggies to treat them as if they were a box of Godiva chocolates and eat just a few at a time.

I remember picking their empty shells off the trees when I was a kid. There were a ton of them at that time. Not so many the next time, I think a lot of the trees they sheltered in where cut down (because they died) and the cicadas went with them. Now, I live a new subdivision so I don't expect any at all:>(. I'll have to ask my mom though if she has seen any.
Mmmm.... crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.

I remember back when I lived in the Chicago area, some years ago, the cicadas made their appearence and one of the newspapers featured a front-page photo of a cat chowing down on one.

guess they must have a good meaty taste.

not that I would want to try one.

I do remember my brother and his friends collecting the casings to try to hang on girls' backs and long hair to freak them out.

The group afgan is lovely. What a great project to participate in! I feel toasty just looking at it.

Well, I'm in Texas, so I pretty much feel toasty all the time, but you get my meaning.

Cicada noise is nonstop in Taipei, especially in the park that I cross on my way to and from work. One day a man was shaking a tree and then picking up the cicadas that fell out. I'm sure they were on someone's dinner table that night. :P
