October 24: Gas tank installed.

It just drives Tony nuts that I haven't painted the whole rear assembly but I did do the brake drums.

Next up is the pedal assembly.

New garage gear: an engine stand. $40 from RS Strauss.

Brake master cylinder. The standard build uses manual brakes. The booster is removed and the master cylinder actuated directly. Owners have very mixed opinions of this, especially those who have upgraded to 4 wheel discs. Everyone who has used the stock power brakes seems to like them, so that's what I'm going with.

Two changes are necessary. The mount has to be ovalled out to accomodate the actuator assembly and a frame tube has to be cut and rewelded. I'm not sure why Factory Five didn't make this change when they upgraded the chassis recently. Most people seem to cut a section out and reweld it lower but I couldn't see any reason not to make just one cut and bend the tube.

Unfortunately, I'm kind of stuck until I can get someone out to the house with a welder. I can't permanently install anything near that tube.

Here's what the master cylinder and booster look like installed.

Although I can't permanently install the pieces yet, next up was to fit and do all the drilling for the driver's footbox. It's rather tedious work. About 75 rivets are required in all. In hindsight, I should have done a lot of the drilling before I first removed the aluminum to paint the chassis.
