1 lb ground beef
1 small onion chopped
1 small green pepper chopped
1 clove garlic
2 TBLS oil
1/4 tsp basil
1/4 tsp fennel seed chopped
1/2 tsp black pepper
6 oz cooked spaghetti
1/2 stick melted butter
1 egg beaten
1/3 C parmesan cheese
1 15 oz can whole tomatoes chopped
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 large pkg grated mozzarella cheese

Saute onion, pepper and garlic in oil in a large skillet. Add ground beef and cook until meat is browned. Add spices, tomatoes and paste and cook over low heat for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile, cook spaghetti and drain. In large bowl mix egg, butter and parmesan cheese and add spaghetti. Toss well. Grease a pie plate or quiche dish with shortening. Line bottom and sides of plate with spaghetti. Cover spaghetti with half of the grated mozzarella cheese. Add meat mixture on top. Cover with remaining mozzarella cheese. Cover with foil and bake in 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes. Let sit a few minutes before serving.

Serves 4, but I double the recipe for my family of 5, which includes 3 big boys. I also use a 13X9 inch baking dish for the larger recipe. This can also be frozen and cooked for those hectic nights when you just don't have enough time to fix a great meal.
