3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup shortening, melted
1 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
4 teaspoons baking power
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 cups chopped Diamond Walnuts
1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
4 teaspoons each water & light corn syrup

LOAF: Resift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt. Beat egg lightly; add melted shortening, milk and vanilla. Stir into dry mixture, just until all of flour is moistened. Reserve about 1/4 cup walnuts for top of loaf; stir remainder into batter. Turn into greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan and sprinkle with walnuts. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour 20 minutes. Makes1 large loaf.
Combine powdered sugar with 4 teaspoons each of water and light corn syrup. Heat over hot water stirring for 2 or 3 minutes until smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and cool 3 or 4 minutes until slightly thickened. Spoon over top of loaf allowing some to drip down sides. Decorate with walnut halves.
